Dr. Kristin Lao
Dr. Kristin Lao completed an Honours Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Waterloo in 2008. She continued her studies there and gained her Doctorate of Optometry degree in 2012. Since then she has been a member in good standing with the College of Optometrists of Ontario, and an active member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists.
Dr. Lao has had the opportunity to work alongside optometrists and ophthalmologists throughout North America, specifically in the areas of refractive surgery, glaucoma, cataracts, diabetes and age-related macular degeneration. Dr. Lao is passionate about preventative care. She believes the key to preserving vision and preventing issues with development, is having routine comprehensive eye examinations, starting as early as childhood.
Dr. Lao grew up in Richmond Hill and first began to develop her passion for optometry during her yearly visits with her own optometrist. Receiving her first pair of glasses at the age of 11, she was amazed at how well she could see and how much she had been missing. If it had not been for a teacher noticing a change in her behaviour in the classroom, her parents would not have known she was having vision issues or that she needed to have her eyes examined. It is through her own personal experience that Dr. Lao knows first-hand the importance of starting exams young, and she has become an advocate for her younger patients. She strives to provide all her patients with the same care, dedication and compassion.
Outside the office, Dr. Lao enjoys staying physically active by going to the gym, running and hiking. She also enjoys cooking, baking, and travelling. She often combines her love for optometry and travel by volunteering her time with international optometry organizations around the world. Dr. Lao has participated in eye care missions to Morocco, South Africa and Mexico to date, and hopes she can continue these adventures throughout her career.
