Dr. Jane Yam
Dr. Jane Yam was raised in Toronto and discovered her interest in optometry during high school where she had participated in a co-op program, working at a busy optometric practice in Thornhill.
She earned her Honours Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Waterloo before attending the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago to complete her Doctor of Optometry degree, graduating cum laude.
Dr. Yam completed clinical externships in Toronto as well as in the United States. She had the privilege of working alongside the doctors at the Vision Institute of Canada, in North York, where she gained experience with the pediatric and developmentally challenged population, as well as visited nursing homes to provide examinations to the elderly.
At the Newington Veterans Hospital in Newington, Connecticut, she specialized in diagnosing and managing ocular diseases with emphasis on glaucoma, macular degeneration and dry eye syndrome. Dr. Yam also completed an externship at OMNI Eye Services in Iselin, New Jersey, where she co-managed the treatment and care of pre and post-operative conditions including cataract, glaucoma, oculoplastic and retinal surgeries.
Dr. Yam believes in participating in community events and has performed school screenings at local elementary schools in the Chicago-area. She has also travelled to San Carlos, Mexico, on a mission trip with eye doctors, students and volunteers to provide free eye care to the residents living in the rural communities. Dr. Jane Yam is both Canadian and American-board certified and is currently a member of The Canadian Association of Optometrists and the Ontario Association of Optometrists.
